Living in the dream
Mar 8th
So, here I am. After two years of hard work, I am finally working as a Staff Writer. OK, OK, it’s only for three days, but it’s a start.
I’m working in London, with Trojan Publishing, publisher of What Diesel, or Diesel Car, as it is soon to be re-christened.
Today was my first day, and it was great, a bit of sub-editing, and some news copy for the website, the day was soon over. One down, two to go, sadly. It’s difficult being away from Sarah, Lily and Ralf, but it’s also great to finally be living my dream-if only for a short while!
A good days work
Feb 6th
Today I had the pleasure of going on my first gig for Classics Monthly. A brilliant day, with a real classic, I also got to work with another car nut, as I was working with former Mini Mag editor turned freelancer, Gerard Hughes. The weather threatened to ruin proceedings all week long, but just when we needed it, the sun came out.
Gez took some first class shots of the car and it’s owner, and the whole thing was a real pleasure. No surprise then that since sitting down at my PC, the copy has come together pretty quickly. Its so much easier when you’re working with people who have the same passion as you do.
Needless to say, I’m buzzing after such a good day.
A weekend in Holland
Jul 1st

Just got back from a superb weekend in Holland, working for MG Enthusiast. Great weather, cracking cars and lovely, open, friendly people. The weekend comprised a photo shoot on the Saturday, and a trip to a British classic car show. The ferry was a doddle, I convinced Sarah to see the new Star Trek in the onboard cinema (she actually thought it was OK) and the seas were nice and calm.
If you’ve never been to Holland, I recommend it, everywhere I went was spotlessly clean, the people speak better English than most English people and it’s a beautiful country. Everything closes on Sundays-even the DJs aren’t on the radio on Sunday!
The Dutch attitude to British cars is really refreshing too, we Brits are all too quick to put the cars we produced down, it’s seems that while we lost our love for Rover Group and it’s products, becoming quick to ridicule whatever rolled out of Longbridge, the Dutch kept a special place in their heart for MG-R. Pity we didn’t.
Keep your eyes peeled in upcoming issues of MG E for the full story, I’m really chuffed with how the weekend went and can’t say thanks enough to the guys for looking after us!
